• In a video relayed more than 12,000 times on Facebook, Vladimir Putin seems to make fun of French voters and Emmanuel Macron.

  • It is a montage, which hijacks an intervention by the Russian president in 2019 during an economic forum.

  • The Russian president was actually speaking about Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian head of state.

Vladimir Putin who encourages French voters to vote on the left for the presidential election, and qualifies these same voters as “cons like brooms”?

This is what we see in a video shared more than 12,000 times on Facebook.

In this three-minute video, we see a woman who allegedly questions the Russian president about the presidential election in France.

Vladimir Putin castigates French voters, who “are all for economic ultraliberalism”.

"To earn 100 euros on their salary, they are ready to destroy their public services", reads the subtitle of this video.

"But they didn't understand that school or medical care cost much more," the Russian president reportedly continued, calling himself a "dictator" later in the video.

Vladimir Putin's alleged exits are interspersed with shots of the hall, where the spectators seem to be having fun, laughing or smiling.

Surprising remarks, which have been reposted several times on Facebook and even Instagram.

FAKE OFF

Albert Taxil, the Internet user behind this montage, confirmed to

Liberation

that it was a "joke".

Images are taken from the 2019 edition of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

At the thirtieth second of the video, we can see the logo of this economic gathering, as well as its initials in English and Russian.

The extract comes from the plenary session of the forum.

The subtitles on the French presidential election and the French voters have been added and have nothing to do with what Vladimir Putin actually said, as can be seen by viewing the video of the sequence, available on the page Forum Facebook.

The session was doubled live, as noted by our colleagues from France 24.

During these few minutes, visible from 2:52 a.m., Vladimir Putin talks about his Ukrainian counterpart.

Journalist Sophie Shevardnadze asks him why he did not congratulate Volodymyr Zelensky on his election and if he is ready to meet him.

"Listen, I don't know this man," replies the Russian head of state.

"I hope we will meet one day," he continues.

From what I have seen, he is a good specialist in the field in which he has worked so far.

He's a good actor.

Vladimir Putin then lists the qualities that he believes make a statesman, specifying that he does not know if he possesses them.

He then criticizes the Ukrainian president for “contradictory statements: he says one thing during the election campaign, and another after”.

He concludes as follows: “I'm not saying that he ruined everything with his declarations without having done anything yet, no.

We will see.
