• Events A well-known Galician surgeon dies when a boat runs over him while swimming on the beach in Sanxenxo

The family of the ophthalmologist from Coruña

Juan Manuel Tábara,

who died last Friday in Sanxenxo (Pontevedra) after being hit by a boat while bathing on

Silgar

beach , has taken legal action in the face of what they believe "was not an accident or a negligence", but a "collective murder".

Speaking to Efe, one of the victim's sisters,

María Tábara,

pointed out that her brother's death was an "avoidable tragedy", so the relatives do not accept "that there is talk that it was an accident, because it hasn't been."

"It is the responsibility of whoever drives the boat and of those who allow them to go at those speeds through areas where people bathe," said the family spokeswoman, who warns that this type of behavior is "usual" in Sanxenxo.

He assures that this "has not been something fortuitous" because events of this type "have already happened other times", although without such a tragic result as in this case.

"It cannot be allowed that if I lose my head, it will destroy everything", he has argued in this regard.

"If I drive a Ferrari at full speed through the center of

La Coruña

and kill someone, it is not an accident. Someone will have to stop me if I go crazy," said María Tábara, who defends that the same measures should be adopted in the bathing areas.

After criticizing the "exhibitionism" that pilots of this type of fast boat usually show, Juan Manuel Tábara's sister explained that he was an experienced swimmer and "raised almost in the sea", despite which he could not dodge the glider

He used to go out to sea with neoprene, a locator watch with GPS and a buoy, for which he assures "everything can be clarified", although he advances that if the boat had sailed at an adequate speed "he would have heard it and would have moved away or would have dived " to get around it.

The police investigation, based on the data provided by the victim's GPS, shows that the event occurred about 170 meters from the coast, when the area delimited for bathers, although not properly marked, is set at up to 200 meters from the beach.

The family of Juan Manuel Tábara has enabled the email

porunsanxenxoseguro@gmail.com

so that anyone who has a recording of what happened or who has witnessed the events can provide any information that will clarify what happened.

This appeal, according to María Tábara, is extended to anyone who has proof of similar events that have happened in the past, because she has stressed that they know "that there have been and that they have been pressured to keep them quiet."

"No one will return Juan to us, but the best tribute we can pay him is that something like this does not happen again," said his sister, who trusts that his death will serve, at least, to improve security conditions in the beaches and bathing areas.

For this reason, the relatives of the ophthalmologist from Coruña demand that "responsibilities be cleared up" and that "physical measures" be adopted on the beaches to prevent "crazy things like this from ending in tragedy" and that the users of the sandbanks "can take a dip without fear".
