- More women are now aiming for the chairmanship, says Nils-Erik Persson, recruiter at the Board Academy Sydost.

The ratio throughout the country between the number of new seats on the boards and the number of new women has been between 30 and 40 percent since 2013, when Almi began its measurements.

The ratio for the past year is 80 percent as 1,001 of the 1,302 new board seats went to women.

- Last year, only women were hired for board positions and we can definitely say that we are experiencing a trend break.

The most remarkable thing about us is that more women are applying for the position of chairman, says Nils-Erik Persson, board recruiter at the Board Academy Sydost.

Go outside the networks

Even though the proportion of women is increasing, the boards in the country mostly consist of men who today hold 80 percent of the seats.

In addition, very few boards are equal, only 16 percent, according to the report.

- In the end, it is diversity that makes a difference and recruiters need to look for competent people outside their networks.

Women should not be afraid to accept higher positions, says Tina Helin, who is chairman of the board at Prefabsystem Syd in Växjö.

The report is based on companies with at least SEK 5 million in turnover and / or at least five employees with at least two regular members of the Board.

This involves a total of 59,044 limited companies.
