China News Service, April 20th. Yang Zhenhai, director of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said on the 20th that the expert team of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs predicted that with the high number of newborn piglets and the continuous accumulation of various favorable factors such as high feed costs, three Pig farming is expected to turn losses into profits in the quarter, but uncertainties still exist.

On the 20th, the State Council Information Office held a press conference on the operation of the agricultural and rural economy in the first quarter of 2022. At the meeting, a reporter asked: On April 18th, the National Bureau of Statistics released data showing that pork prices fell by 41.8% in the first quarter.

What measures does the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs take to stabilize pork prices and promote the development of the pig production industry?

In this regard, Yang Zhenhai said that from the perspective of production, my country's live pig production has returned to the normal level in 2021. Affected by the inertial growth of production, live pig slaughtering continued to increase in the first quarter of this year, but production capacity was further optimized.

In the first quarter, 195.66 million live pigs were sold, a year-on-year increase of 14.1%.

Breeding sows have returned to normal for 9 consecutive months.

At the end of the first quarter, there were 41.85 million breeding sows in the country, equivalent to 102.1% of the normal population of 41 million, which is in a green and reasonable area for production capacity control.

Judging from the price situation, the price of live pigs declined overall in the first quarter.

Pig farming fell into losses in February and March.

Recently, under the combined effect of factors such as the increase in pork consumption during the Qingming holiday and market regulation, the supply and demand of pork has improved.

In late March, the price of live pigs ended a 16-week continuous decline and stabilized and rebounded.

On April 19, the average price of live pigs in the main producing provinces was 12.85 yuan per kilogram, an increase of 1.34 yuan from the stage low on March 18.

However, the current pig farming has not turned losses into profits. In March, each pig sold for slaughter lost 327 yuan, which was 153 yuan more than in February.

Yang Zhenhai pointed out that in response to this situation, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has successively held symposiums for pig breeding enterprises and department coordination meetings, intensively released production early warning information through mainstream media and professional platforms, urged localities to implement live pig production capacity control plans, and opened hotlines in time to help breeding. Market households solve production, sales and circulation difficulties.

Next, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs is ready to do three things:

  One is stable production.

Strengthen monitoring and early warning, guide farm households to rationally arrange production, urge local governments to stabilize support policies, help farm households, and prevent excessive decline in production capacity.

Now pig enterprises and slaughtering and processing enterprises have encountered temporary operational difficulties, and the capital chain is relatively tight. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Commerce, and the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission have issued documents. Loan, break loan, draw loan.

The second is to prevent diseases.

Guide all localities to coordinate the promotion of the "two-epidemic joint prevention" of the new crown pneumonia epidemic and major animal diseases, promote the centralized immunization of major animal diseases in spring in an orderly manner, continue to do a good job in the normalized prevention and control of African swine fever, and implement key prevention and control measures such as monitoring and inspection, cleaning and disinfection. .

What needs to be emphasized is that all localities should coordinate the prevention and control of animal epidemics, and strictly prevent the superposition of the two epidemics.

The third is the unblocked point.

In response to the problem that the transportation of feed, veterinary drugs, and animal products has been blocked due to epidemic prevention and control in some areas, the coordination mechanism of ministries and provinces has been brought into play, and every effort has been made to help farmers solve problems and maintain normal production and sales order.

Yang Zhenhai also said, "Our expert team predicts that with the continuous accumulation of various favorable factors such as the high number of newborn piglets and the high decline in feed costs, pig farming is expected to turn losses into profits in the third quarter, but uncertainties still exist. I Here, I also hope that the majority of farm households should not only strengthen their confidence, not excessively eliminate the breeding sows, but also release fat pigs according to the trend, and not blindly press the slaughter."
