“Italy will refuse to comply with the new payment terms for gas demanded by Moscow if the European Union considers this a violation of sanctions,” the agency said.

It is noted that during the preliminary assessment, the EU considered the Russian terms of gas payment a violation of the restrictions.

The Italian Government is currently awaiting the completion of a legal review.

On March 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had signed a decree on gas trade with unfriendly countries. 

According to him, in order for Western countries to be able to purchase gas from Russia, they must open accounts in Russian banks.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that Hungary is ready to pay for Russian gas in rubles, this will not be a violation of EU sanctions.
