Damaris Muthee Mutua was found dead on Tuesday April 19 in Iten in the west of the country.

The police suspect her boyfriend.

This new murder revives the memory of the assassination, last year, of the long-distance runner Agnès Tirop, in this same city, known worldwide for its high-level training centers.

The lifeless body of Damaris Muthee Mutua, 28, was found by police on Tuesday in a house in the suburb of Iten.

But the murder of the Bahraini athlete of Kenyan origin could date back to last weekend.

The suspicions relate to her boyfriend, a runner, also who has since fled Kenya for Ethiopia.

According to county police chief Tom Makori, the house where the gruesome discovery was made was rented in his name, and a neighbor said he saw him there again Sunday morning.

Before donning the Bahrain bib, Damaris Muthée Mutua won several medals for Kenya at the 2010 Singapore Youth Olympics and the East African Junior Athletics Championships in Khartoum.

While the exact circumstances of her death are still uncertain, this murder rekindles the shock caused by

, double bronze medalist at the world championships, found dead at her home last October.

Charged for her murder, her husband is currently in custody but denies the charges against him.

His lawyers are trying to get him released on bail.
