Since this Saturday, the inhabitants of Sermaize-les-Bains (Marne) no longer have access to the Internet or to the Orange telephone network, reports France Bleu Champagne-Ardenne.

The mayor was informed of the breakdown by the gendarmes.

To remain available, the police had to relocate to a neighboring town.

In addition to the telephone network and the Internet, payment by credit card, recording checks and withdrawing cash were impossible in the banks of the town of 2,000 inhabitants.

Second failure in a few months

According to Orange, it was a "technical incident" in a neighboring town that caused the breakdown.

The operator expected a return to normal on Tuesday or Wednesday.

A copper theft is believed to be the cause of the outage after a fiber cable was cut.

A similar outage occurred in October 2021 in the same town.

A cable torn out by an excavator during work on the optical fiber had deprived the inhabitants of the telephone network and the Internet for several days.
