A fight broke out between amateur football players on Monday during a match in Bazeilles (Ardennes).

The meeting opposed the players of the town to those of Fumay, reports L'Union.

The violence reportedly started in the 21st minute of the match.

According to the president of US Bazeilles, two of his players received violent blows while they were on the ground.

He recalls that the Fumay club is already known for acts of violence.

"They have already been excluded from the championship for a year," he notes, adding that he intends to file a complaint.

An open investigation

On Fumay's side, the story is quite different.

The president assures that a Bazeilles player would have responded to a tackle by "putting a straight line on my player's chest".

Five Fumay athletes were injured in the brawl.

For the president, the liabilities of his club deserve to be forgotten, after the “spring cleaning” he did when he arrived four years earlier.

The gendarmes intervened on the spot, but the fight was already over.

An investigation was opened to determine the exact circumstances of the violence and the responsibility of each.
