It has been confirmed that Han Dong-hoon, a candidate for the Minister of Justice, received an income deduction unfairly.

One candidate listed her mother as a dependent on the income tax deduction for her 2021 year-end settlement.

In addition to the basic deduction of 1.5 million won, since her mother is over 60, she received an additional deduction of 1 million won for senior citizens.

One candidate has been refusing to declare his mother's estate on the grounds of 'independent living' in his annual public office property filings.

As a result of SBS coverage, it was found that the mother of a candidate owns 4 shopping malls and 1 officetel in Seocho-dong, Seoul, earning millions of won in rental income every month.

According to the Income Tax Act, the requirements for dependent family deduction are that parents must be 60 years of age or older and have an annual income of 1 million won or less.

One candidate explained that it was an employee's mistake who made the year-end tax settlement on his behalf and that he would correct it.

A candidate's side said, "Until the first half of last year, when I was working at the prosecution office, I had never applied for a deduction for my mother by entering it directly into the internal system. I think the application was made by mistake during the year-end tax settlement process.”

He added, "We plan to take measures to exclude (deduction details) because it is possible to modify the deduction details during the final return period starting on May 1."

A situation where the mother of a candidate purchased land in Gangwon-do was also caught.

A candidate's mother bought a parcel of forest land (3,050㎡) in Hoenggye-ri, Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do in 1988, splitting it with 6 people at monthly intervals and has owned it to this day.

One candidate's mother owns about 15% of the lot.

The announced individual land price of the lot was 3,600 won per square meter in 1990, which can be checked in the system of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and rose 22 times to 79,700 won per square meter in 2021.

Regarding this, one candidate's representative said, "It is something the candidate does not know."
