Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen had a tense exchange on Wednesday evening about the debt, during the debate between the two rounds of the presidential election.

The two candidates are scarred on the subject of debt.

Marine Le Pen criticized the outgoing president for having "created 600 billion euros of additional debt in five years, two thirds of which have absolutely nothing to do with the Covid. These are the figures of your own ministries. Your ministries evoke 145 billion for the Covid".

 Macron replied quickly. The 600 billion debt is 200 billion the State part and the rest is Social Security, local authorities. Why? Because as people could no longer work, we did not deduct their contributions. Whatever the cost, you voted against but what would you have done during the Covid crisis?
