Recently, the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Ireland have reported cases of hepatitis of unknown etiology in children.

Novel coronaviruses or adenoviruses have been detected in samples from some cases, but the role of these viruses in the pathogenesis of hepatitis cases is unclear.

As of now, the cause of this hepatitis is unknown.

The WHO informed that laboratory analysis has ruled out the possibility that these cases were caused by hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E viruses, and new coronavirus or adenovirus was detected in some samples.

In a statement, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that based on what is currently known, adenovirus may be responsible for these cases.

Dozens of adenoviruses are known, many of which are associated with cold symptoms, fever, sore throat, etc. Some adenoviruses can cause inflammation of the stomach and intestines.
