About 20 interested people had gathered in the clubhouse at Aspängen's IP in Östra Ryd when Söderköping's business coordinator Björn Ekengren was on site for a start-up meeting.

- We want to shake up new ideas and projects to make our districts more attractive and strengthen the entire municipality of Söderköping.

The purpose is also to create pride in their area so more people want to visit and settle here, says Björn Ekengren.

Gotland is a role model

The project "Opportunities Söderköping - countryside and archipelago" has been inspired by the project "Gotland's 92 opportunities", and has since the start in December arranged six rural meetings in different places within Söderköping municipality.

- The interest has so far been above expectations.

Most are positive and very curious about the project.

Some are quite self-propelled while others need more support to get started, he says.

Positive spirit in Östra Ryd

Östra Ryd is already an active area today and has strong driving forces through the village team, various companies and the sports association, which Simon Östling testifies as the initiator of the popular disc golf course.

- There are many who are positive and helpful.

We have a good cohesion in Östra Ryd and that is our strength.

I think we have a great development potential and as a first step, it is good to get a more overall picture of what competence is available here in the area, he says.
