The future of the Rocklunda area has been uncertain for a long period.

This is after Rocklunda fastigheter AB and the city of Västerås have not agreed to extend the current lease agreement the municipality has until 2031.

During the press conference at City Hall, however, the municipality was determined that they do not intend to allow the current owners to sell the area to Sammhällsbyggnadsförlaget i Norden AB.

As the municipality itself considers itself to have the authority to stop the sale.

- We have a 25-year agreement with an option to repurchase in 2031. And we want to keep the local player we made the decision with 15 years ago, says Staffan Jansson (S).

Since the municipality and Rocklunda properties are still in negotiations, it has been difficult to invest in refurbishing the arenas in the area.

If the municipality does not succeed in stopping sales, arenas may need to be built in other places.

- Then we may have to find new locations and those assignments we have already given the committee, says Vicki Skure-Eriksson (C), chairman of the committee for sports and leisure.
