Cairo -

After Egyptian human rights websites, law firms and activists circulated on social media the news of referring the President of the Port Said Criminal Court, Counselor Sami Abdel Rahim, to trial, on charges of receiving bribes and possession of weapons and drugs;

The Cairo Court of Appeal decided to ban publication in the case.

And the decision addressed to the head of the National Media Authority (the highest media authority in the country) - and was reviewed by Al-Jazeera Net correspondent - stated that “publishing was prohibited in Case No. 6431 of 2022 in New Cairo, No. 120 of 2022, the Supreme State Security Restriction, and No. 160 of 2022 felonies. Supreme State Security to the Cairo Court of Appeal in preparation for the trial.

The ban in the aforementioned case included all audio and visual media, all national and party daily and weekly newspapers and magazines, local and foreign, and other publications, whatever they were, and websites, until the end of the trial.

The case included in the referral decision - which was reviewed by Al-Jazeera Net correspondent - 16 defendants, in addition to the accused judge, Sami Mahmoud Ali Abdel Rahim.

In light of the decision to ban publication in the case, news of the judge’s referral to trial, the dismissal of his son and the confiscation of his property spread through social media, through the accounts of human rights websites, lawyers, human rights defenders, and activists.

According to what was published on the pages of Ahmed Abdel Hakim Attia Law Firm, the Egyptian Network for Human Rights, and other human rights websites on Facebook;

All the defendants admitted that the main accused had received bribes, in return for issuing lenient sentences in their favour, and others acquitted.

The Economic Court also issued a decision to confiscate the property of the judge accused of bribery and all his family members, and dismissed his son from the Public Prosecution Office and his incompetence because of his bribery father, and it was decided to set May 7, 2022, to consider the case, according to the same pages.

The last appearance of the accused judge was on March 12, during the retrial session of 17 defendants from the Muslim Brotherhood in the violent incidents that took place in Port Said Governorate in August 2013, known as the “Arab Police Department Incidents”, which he decided to postpone until April 16. Nissan Advance.

And the Port Said Criminal Court, according to the state-run Al-Ahram website, had decided in August 2015 to punish the General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohamed Badie, and the two leaders of the group, Mohamed El-Beltagy, the Islamic preacher Safwat Hegazy and 16 others, to life imprisonment, 25 years in attendance, and to punish 76 other accused fugitives with the same penalty. 28 others in attendance were imprisoned for 10 years, and 68 defendants were acquitted of the charges against them.

The Egyptian Network for Human Rights quoted the accused judge as saying during the prosecution's investigations that he defended himself by describing himself as a "man of the system," as she said.

"No one will go down to the grave with us."

The accused judge, while presiding over a number of criminal courts, issued some famous rulings in cases of a political nature, such as the execution of Adel Mohamed Ibrahim, known as "Adel Habara", for accusing him of deliberately killing a police informant in the Abu Kabir Investigation Unit in Sharkia Governorate with premeditation with a firearm.

According to the local press, Abdel Rahim responded to the Brotherhood’s General Guide during his retrial in the case of storming the Arab Police Station in Port Said, when the latter complained that he had been wronged by accusing him in the aforementioned case, and said, “The court does not wrong anyone,” adding, “No one (No one) Nobody) will go down with us to the grave,” referring to the fact that the court provides them with a fair trial.

The pioneers of the communication sites caught the news, and some viewed it as a reflection of part of the corruption of some members of the judiciary who handle public opinion cases, while others praised the arrest of the judge accused of bribery and referring him to trial as part of the state’s efforts to hold the corrupt and bribed to account, and that no one is above justice and accountability.

There is neither might nor power except with God, the Most High, the Great. I do not know what these people are, but the sweet thing about the matter is that the country is clean and no one will be held accountable. The eyes of Egypt are not silent. Come to the lips.
