It was at 6 pm on Maundy Thursday that the police were alerted to the incident in the Tärnaby area, in Storman municipality.

When the patrol arrived at the scene, a man in his 80s was found dead.

According to police, he has been shot.

- It was the suspect himself who called in the call, says David Helgesson, head of serious crime at the Umeå police.

The man, who is in his 60s, belongs to the same family, and was arrested at the scene.

He was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of murder.

The man admits murder but not murder.

Former employee

Fifteen years ago, the police confiscated the man's weapon in connection with his treatment for mental problems.

In the same year, he was also sentenced for aggravated drunk driving to community service.

The man appealed that the police took the weapons to the Administrative Court, the Court of Appeal and the Government Court to have the decision revoked.

"Since this is important for my lifestyle (hunting), how can a simple citizen like me be able to assert his opinion in this if one is not taken seriously by various courts in Sweden," he wrote in the appeal to the Supreme Court.

The police do not want to comment on the type of weapon used in the suspected murder.

- The investigation must show whose weapon it is about and how he could have access to it, says David Helgesson.

The suspect has previously had a job as head of a municipality in Västerbotten.

In 2020, he had debts with the Enforcement Officer of approximately SEK 190,000.
