The position had been vacant since July 2020. The appointment of Tiémoko Meyliet Koné

as vice-president of Côte d'Ivoire

is a small surprise.

His name almost never appeared in the predictions in recent days.

Be that as it may, President Alassane Ouattara has been full of praise for him, hailing his government experience fifteen years ago, speaking of him as an outstanding technocrat, a brilliant economist, a man of consensus and probity.

At almost 73 years old

, Tiémoko Meyliet Koné has been governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) since 2011. A mandate that he will have to shorten to return to Abidjan, the BCEAO being based in Dakar, in the Senegal.

The new vice-president still has to be sworn in.

His eligibility was in any case validated this morning by the Constitutional Council.

Patrick Achi reappointed

Alassane Ouattara also announced during his State of the Nation speech that he was reappointing

Patrick Achi as Prime Minister

.

This renewal – relatively expected – was simply confirmed at the turn of a sentence.

The president took stock of the action of the outgoing government.

He explained to what extent the fight against the high cost of living was a priority for this outgoing government and he declared, speaking of Patrick Achi, that he had instructed him to continue, implying therefore that he was reappointed.

After a few seconds of hesitation, bursts of laughter greeted the statement.

The Achi 2 government should therefore be announced quickly.

It will be tightened, with about thirty members, against about forty currently.
