Frankfurt's most colorful demonstration march through the streets of the Main metropolis again in July.

After two years of pandemic restrictions, Christopher Street Day (CSD) returns to some normality on July 16th.

Groups of more than nine people and participants with vehicles can register themselves with the organizers from Tuesday 19 April until the day of the demonstration.

Unlike in 2020 and 2021, trucks are allowed again.

With the rally in July, the Frankfurt CSD is also celebrating an anniversary this year under the motto "30 years and not a bit quiet".

In addition to the rally and the demonstration train, an exhibition on the history of the Frankfurt CSD is also planned, as well as city tours on this topic and a performance by cabaret artist Timo Becker, alias Malte Anders, with his program "Homology".

The number of participants during the pandemic showed that there is still a great desire to demonstrate for sexual diversity and equality in the city: in previous years, thousands of participants took to the streets, in 2021 there were around 8,000. They would not have had this success expected, rather with a lot fewer demonstrators, says press spokesman and board member Andreas Gerlach.

For 2022, however, the Executive Board estimated the number of participants to be similar to the previous year.

However, there will be one or two changes compared to the past two years.

A show stage like in pre-pandemic times is to be set up again on the Konstablerwache, and the route will be different than before.

Although, as of now, there will be no corona requirements for the CSD this year, the pandemic has also left its mark here.

The costs have increased by 30 percent compared to 2019, says Andreas Gerlach.

Sponsors such as hotels and food companies have withdrawn due to delivery problems, but also some community hosts whose pubs have not survived the past two years.

As a result, there were no stand fees, and there were also the increased energy prices.

Overall, this has created a noticeable funding gap.

They have therefore already applied to the Office for Multicultural Affairs for additional funds in addition to the usual amount of funding in order to be able to better cope with the financial challenges, but have not yet received any feedback.
