Our coverage confirmed that Lee Chang-yang, a candidate for Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, who works as a KAIST professor and serves as an outside director of several companies and creates a controversy over 'conflicts of interest', also served as an advisor for three companies.

However, this fact was not included in the personnel hearing materials that Lee submitted to the National Assembly.

Reporter Kim Deok-hyun reports.

Candidate Chang-Yang Lee, who worked as a professor at KAIST, has served as an outside director at three companies since 2009 and received 730 million won.

He countered that there was no problem with the 'conflict of interest' point.

[Lee Chang-yang / Candidate for Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy: I think that the performance of a ministerial position as an outside director is completely different.

I think that a business school professor knows about corporate management is very helpful for education and research.]

However, as a result of SBS coverage, it was confirmed that this candidate served as an advisor to three companies in addition to an outside director.

At SK hynix, he served as an advisory member since May 2018, two months after his tenure as an outside director, and received 60 million won for one year. Each received sixty thousand won.

Since 2013, he has also served as an advisor to a private equity fund manager for over 8 years.

As the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, this is a topic that can raise the possibility of a 'conflict of interest'.

The candidate's side said, "It is not a formal position, but a simple advisory activity."
