It's a museum that smelled of 20th century France.
Since its opening in 1993, the museum of arts, crafts and trade of Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys (Morbihan) proudly displayed its collections of objects of yesteryear.
Old toys, reconstructions of school rooms or old shops, lace… But also an incalculable number of advertising objects dating in particular from the abundant period of the post-war boom period.
Among them, a small plate of The Laughing Cow stood out during a large auction organized this weekend after the forced closure of the museum.
After almost twenty years of activity, the owners of the establishment had to resolve to close its doors in the fall to retire.
To their chagrin, they did not find a buyer and had to part with nearly 5,000 objects sold at auction for four days within the walls of the closed museum.
Collectors for more than forty years, Mariannick and Michel Craneguy have seen their precious finds sold under the hammer of the auctioneer.
And sometimes they must have been surprised.
According to
Ouest-France
, a plate of the La Vache qui rit brand was sold for 6,600 euros on Saturday.
Produced by the illustrator Benjamin Rabier, the 28 centimeter diameter enamel plate promoting the famous cheese from the Bel brand was estimated at between 400 and 600 euros according to the catalog of the Adjug'art house which made the sale.
According to
Ouest-France
, other enamelled advertising plates have reached four-digit amounts, in particular one presenting Biscuits St-Michel, sold for 2,500 euros.
