From the 18th, Kim Sung, the US Special Representative for North Korea Affairs, visited South Korea and held consultations with South Korea on matters such as North Korea's recent launch of intercontinental ballistic missiles.

It is reported that during Kim Sung’s visit to South Korea, he will meet with the Korean Foreign Ministry’s Minister of Peace Negotiations on the Peninsula, Noh Kyu-duk, and senior officials of the South Korean government. They will mainly exchange views on the international community’s response to the North Korean missile threat and the situation on the Peninsula.

It is reported that Kim Sung will also hold talks with relevant persons of South Korea's President-elect Yoon Seok-wyeh to communicate on the new South Korean government's policy toward North Korea.

The U.S. State Department said Kim's visit will emphasize the close collaboration between South Korea and the U.S. in pursuit of denuclearization of the peninsula and lasting peace in the region.

  On the same day that Kim Sung visited South Korea, the joint command post exercise between South Korea and the United States in the first half of 2022 officially began.

According to the South Korean Joint Staff Headquarters, the exercise will last for 9 days and will be carried out by computer simulation, and will not carry out field maneuvering training.

  Recently, the situation on the peninsula has become tense again. North Korea launched the Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile on March 24.
