The authority stated that the total workforce in the health sector increased by 91% during the past five years, to reach 51,753 employees, after it was 27,088 employees in 2015, while the Executive Director of Health Regulation at the authority, Marwan Al Mulla, attributed this increase to the fact that Dubai is an attractive environment for investment, in addition to the incentive measures implemented by the authority.

Al Mulla explained to "Emirates Today" that "Dubai is a destination for all those looking for job opportunities, especially the health sector, where the authority witnesses daily many requests for licensing, whether professional or for health facilities."

He added that the main incentives for attracting investment to the health sector are the ease of procedures and speed of implementation.

He pointed out that this increase and development in growth comes in order to achieve the goals and strategic directions to make Dubai the ideal city to attract scientific expertise and competencies, to provide distinguished care, and enhance patients' confidence.

Al Mulla said that the authority is keen to facilitate the procedures for obtaining medical licenses for facilities and licenses to practice the profession through the “Sheryan” system, as it is making great efforts to support and facilitate investment opportunities for the private sector, which is a strategic partner in developing the medical sector in the emirate, and enhancing its position as an ideal destination. According to a report issued by the authority, recently, the total workforce in the health sector in Dubai, during the year 2020, reached about 51,753 employees.

The number of doctors increased by 6%, from 9,850 in 2019 to 10,437 in 2020.

The number of nurses in the health sector also increased from 18,538 in 2019 to 19,272 in 2020.

The highest percentage of the health workforce is in hospitals, with 20,755 employees, representing 40% of the total workforce.

The workforce serves the four main health sectors in Dubai: the Health Authority, the private sector, the Ministry of Health and Prevention, and Dubai Healthcare City.

Looking at the occupational categories of health care providers, doctors constituted 20.2% of the total workforce, and nurses constituted the largest percentage of health workers in the emirate, at 37.2%.

Regarding the workplace of doctors within the health sector, 42.3% of doctors in Dubai concentrated in the private health sector, and 60.5% of licensed doctors in Dubai were specialists, followed by consultants 23.5%, then general practitioners 16.5%, and with regard to dentists The vast majority of them (83.2%) work in the emirate's private sector.

The report added: "As for the distribution of doctors by specialty in Dubai in 2020, the specialty of physical therapy and radiology comes first, followed by dermatology and venereology, and obstetrics and gynecology."
