UK Home Secretary 'personally responsible' for sending asylum seekers to Rwanda

British Home Secretary Priti Patel had to personally agree to a plan to send some asylum seekers from the UK to Rwanda after her ministry officials expressed concern about the value of the plan.

This is according to the British agency, "BBC".

Patel issued a rare "ministerial directive" to pass the plan, which means she takes responsibility for it.

This is the second time the ministry has used this authority in 30 years.

A union of prominent government employees said the plan was "controversial" and officials had to either implement it or leave.

Senior Civil Servants Syndicate general secretary Dave Penman told BBC News: "Government employees know their job is to support the current government. They sign their contracts knowing that they may not like what the government is doing."
