Today, Sunday, the first direct Israeli flight belonging to the "El Al" airline took off to Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport in Egypt.

While a source at the Israeli Foreign Ministry reported that the plane had arrived at its destination, the Egyptian side did not issue any official statement in this regard.

Before the plane took off, the Israeli company said in a statement posted on Twitter, "We are happy and excited to launch the first commercial flight to Sharm El-Sheikh."

El Al added that on the occasion of the historic take-off, a ceremonial ceremony was held to open the company's "Sun Door" line, before passengers boarded the plane, where the entry ribbon was cut and the passengers were welcomed.

For its part, the official Israeli channel "Kan" said that the Israeli companies "Arkia" and "Israir" will launch their direct flights to Sharm el-Sheikh later on Sunday, pointing out that Egyptian companies will also launch their flights on the same line.

She added that the flight takes about an hour, and companies will initially be allowed to operate 9 flights per week.

It is estimated that the numbers will increase later.

Egypt and Israel agreed last March to inaugurate a direct flight between David Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv and Sharm el-Sheikh Airport in Egypt.

The inauguration of these flights comes after two visits by Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to Egypt, during which he met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

In a related context, "Kan" said that the Taba border crossing witnessed heavy traffic this morning on the Israeli side, after hundreds of Israelis flocked to Sinai, explaining that more than 5,000 Israelis are expected to pass to Sinai today to spend the Jewish Passover holiday, which began on Friday. It lasts a week.
