In the clip, you hear the coordinator Maria Nehme O'Neill talk about the increased need.

The Rescue Mission's grocery store Maträtt

in Gothenburg receives food waste and surplus goods from food companies and wholesalers in

order to be able to sell discounted goods to those in need.

In recent months, the number of applications to shop in the store has increased, with 60 new members added every week.

- It is a direct result of the fact that it is more expensive to shop, it is more expensive to live and it is more expensive with fuel.

You need to save if you already live with small financial margins, says Maria Nehme O'Neill who is the coordinator for the store.

More people are coming here

Since the store opened two years ago, about 7,000 people have applied for membership.

One of them is Marita Tjärnhage who has shopped here for six months.

- You can buy a little cheaper goods, it's not entirely wrong, I'm not a rich pensioner but rather the opposite, says Marita Tjärnhage.

To take advantage of the food waste that is left over, the store is also open to non-members who shop at a higher price.

- The important thing is that the food is consumed, says Maria Nehme O'Neill.
