Mohammed bin Rashid issues a decree forming the Supreme Committee to oversee the Expo 2020 Dubai area

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE in his capacity as Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, issued Decree No. (15) of 2022, forming the Higher Committee for Supervising the Expo 2020 Dubai District, headed by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. His Highness also issued Decree No. (16) of 2022, regarding the continuation of the work of the Preparatory Committee for the Dubai Expo, and the Director General of the Expo Office in performing the tasks and powers entrusted to them for a period of six months, subject to extension, provided that the two decrees are implemented from the date of their issuance and are published in the Official Gazette.   



The Higher Committee for Supervision of Expo 2020 Dubai includes in its membership: His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, His Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimi, His Excellency Abdul Rahman Saleh Al Saleh, and His Excellency Hilal Saeed Al Marri, provided that the term of the committee’s work is three years, subject to extension by a decision of His Highness Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai, based on the recommendation of His Highness the Chairman of the Committee.  

In light of what was specified by Decree No. (15) of 2022, the Supreme Committee will assume a set of tasks and powers, foremost of which are: drawing


up the general policy for the development and development of the Expo 2020 Dubai region, supervising the implementation, governance and development of all projects, initiatives, programs and activities to be established in this region, and supervising the Preparing and implementing the comprehensive plan for the development of the Expo area in coordination with the concerned authorities, and confirming the compatibility of its development and development in accordance with the approved plans and strategic performance indicators, and its alignment with government priorities and approved objectives in this regard.

The Supreme Committee will also supervise the rehabilitation of the infrastructure for the Expo 2020 Dubai area, ensure the implementation of the necessary rehabilitation and development processes for this area, and supervise the provision of investment opportunities in the Expo area in partnership with the private sector, as well as the adoption of the promotional and marketing plan for the area locally and globally


in coordination with the relevant authorities.

The decree clarified the mechanism for holding the meetings of the Supreme Committee, provided that in its first meetings a vice-chairman would be chosen. The decree also stipulated that the Supreme Committee would have a rapporteur appointed by the head of the committee, while the decree clarified the administrative and organizational tasks entrusted to the committee’s decision.

The decree also stipulates that the Supreme Committee shall have an administrative and executive body appointed by the president or his delegate, to provide administrative and technical support to the Supreme Committee, sub-committees and work teams formed by it, to enable them to perform the tasks entrusted to them under the provisions of this decree.

The decree obligated all government agencies and relevant authorities in the emirate concerned with the development and development of the Expo 2020 Dubai area, to cooperate fully with the Supreme Committee, its sub-committees and its working teams, and to provide the data, information, statistics, documents and studies they request, which they deem necessary to enable them to perform the tasks entrusted to them.

The Chairman of the Higher Committee shall issue the necessary decisions to implement the provisions of this decree.

Extension of Decree No. (16) of 2022, stipulating the continuation of the "Preparatory Committee for the World Expo 2020", which was formed by Decree No. (49) of 2013, and the "Expo Dubai Office 2020" established by Decree No. 30 of 2014, and the Director The year of the office appointed pursuant to Decree No. (31) of 2014, in performing the tasks and powers entrusted to them for a period of six months from the date


this decree came into force, with the possibility of extending the aforementioned period for other similar periods by a decision of the Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai based on the recommendation of the Chairman of the Preparatory Committee Who may determine the subcommittees whose work is required to continue during the specified period.
