According to a report in the regional newspaper "WAZ", the AfD in Gelsenkirchen reported a protestant and a catholic parish because of the constant ringing of bells at an election campaign event.

A police spokesman for "WAZ" said that the ad would now be sent to the public prosecutor's office for review.

At the start of the AfD election campaign in North Rhine-Westphalia around a week ago in Gelsenkirchen, the bells in both church towers near the square rang constantly.

The dpa news agency confirmed the incident.

At least in the case of the evangelical Emmaus congregation, the ringing of the bell was no coincidence: they had previously invited people to the “Ringing and Praying” event via Facebook, which was officially announced as a “protest event against hate speech and exclusion”.

The AfD local politician, who had registered the event with parliamentary group leader Alice Weidel, based his advert according to the "WAZ" on paragraph 21 of the Assembly Act.

Accordingly, one must not "frustrate" "non-banned meetings or elevators" or cause "gross disturbances".

At the AfD event with around 150 people, there was also a counter-demo with more than 100 participants.
