Minister of Climate and Environment Annika Strandhäll (S) has presented a package for a faster expansion of wind power.

The municipal veto, ie the possibilities to stop an establishment, remains.

On the other hand, the municipalities' handling must enter at a much earlier stage.

The main problem is that the issue of compensation for housing and municipalities has not been resolved, thinks Sollefteå's municipal councilor Johan Andersson (C).

- This is the most important issue to solve, he thinks and points out that the system in our neighboring country Norway is much more generous.

Bait to increase the ceilings

The Minister of the Environment spoke of "incentives" for municipalities and residents when the package was presented.

Municipalities that say yes to establishments can get funding for things like sports grounds or bathhouses, she said.

But there, answers will be delayed.

What the compensation system should look like must first be investigated - with an end date last March 2023.

It is important that the veto remains

However, one thing may be approved by the municipal council:

- The municipal veto is very important that it remains, and that we go into the process earlier is only good for everyone involved, Johan Andersson thinks.

The municipalities will now, according to the government's proposal, be obliged to provide an answer no later than nine months after an application.

At the same time, the municipal position will be a prerequisite for a permit application to be possible at all.

Project denied

Never before have so many wind power projects met the cold hand of the municipalities as in 2021.

Not very strange, Andersson thinks.

- It is felt that the values that are created do not stay in the area, quite simply.
