Yesterday, Thursday, the Forces for Freedom and Change in Sudan stressed that they will not proceed with any political process without releasing detainees, canceling the state of emergency and stopping the repression of demonstrators, while Sudanese-American talks took place on strengthening cooperation between the armies of the two countries.

Since October 25, Sudan has witnessed protests that reject exceptional measures taken by the army chief, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, most notably the imposition of a state of emergency and the dissolution of the Sovereignty Councils and the Transitional Ministers.

This came in a press conference of the former ruling coalition in Khartoum.

The leader in Freedom and Change Sherif Mohamed Othman said - during the conference - that a delegation of forces met today with the head of the UN Mission (UNITAMS) Volker Peretz, the envoy of the African Union, Mohamed Hassan Ould Labbad, and the envoy of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development in East Africa (IGAD) Ismail Weiss, and their vision was presented. the political process in Sudan.

Osman stated that the joint mechanism of the United Nations, the African Union and IGAD called for a joint meeting of all parties to the crisis in Sudan, and demanded that freedom and change declare its opinion on the parties participating in the meeting.

"We told them that Freedom and Change will study this matter and respond to it in writing in the coming days," he added.

political process

However, Othman added, "Freedom and change will not proceed in any political process unless conditions are met, which are the release of all political detainees, the abolition of the state of emergency, and the cessation of violence against peaceful demonstrators."

He stressed that Freedom and Change is continuing to achieve its goal of overthrowing what he called the "coup" of last October 25.

Opposition forces and human rights organizations accuse the authorities of arresting political leaders and dozens of activists in the resistance committees that are participating in organizing ongoing protests calling for full democratic civilian rule, but the authorities usually say that the arrest of some people is carried out by the judicial authorities that enjoy complete independence.

On Tuesday, the tripartite mechanism of the United Nations, the African Union and IGAD presented 4 main axes to resolve the political crisis in Sudan.

The four axes are: constitutional arrangements, defining criteria for selecting the prime minister and ministers, formulating a program of action that addresses the urgent needs of citizens, and formulating a tight and timely plan to organize free and fair elections.
