Le Pen calls Macron the most 'tyrannical' president of France

French far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen rejected criticism from her opponent, Emmanuel Macron, that she has not abandoned her "authoritarian" and extremist views, despite her appearance less aggressively in the current election campaign.

"This (criticism) makes me smile, because we've never had a president who has shown more signs of extremism than Emmanuel Macron," Le Pen told France 2 television, referring to police behavior on political protests such as the yellow vest movement.

During the interview, Le Pen reiterated her statements that if she was elected president, she would not rule out holding a public referendum on reinstating the death penalty.

Le Pen had previously said that she would personally vote against such a move.
