Kantoku Teruya, a former member of the House of Representatives who served as the deputy leader of the Social Democratic Party, died at a hospital in Okinawa Prefecture on the afternoon of the 15th.

Teruya was born in 1945, the year of the end of the war, in a prisoner of war camp in the U.S. Army in Saipan. I did.



He has served as a member of the Okinawa Prefectural Assembly for two terms and a member of the House of Councilors for one term, and has served as a member of the House of Representatives for six consecutive terms since 2003. ..



He has also served as chairman and deputy leader of the Social Democratic Party.



Mr. Teruya retired without running for the House of Representatives election in October last year, saying, "I am getting older and have sequelae of illness."



According to his people, Teruya had cancer and continued to receive medical treatment at home, but last week he was admitted to a hospital in Nishihara Town, Okinawa Prefecture, and died on the afternoon of the 15th.
