Preparedness for a pandemic was deficient in the region.

There was a lack of protective equipment and medicines, just like in many other places.

Now the doctor and medical manager responsible for surgery and intensive care in Örnsköldsvik are wondering what the region has learned before the coming crises.

- It is quite clearly regulated in the law that the region must be responsible for preparedness in peacetime and we still have that in any case.

Do you trust that there is a stockpile of protective equipment and medicines?

- Absolutely not.

It's very easy to make me trust someone.

I do not need to know WHERE it is but I want to know what is there and in what quantity.

Ask without answer

Annika Nilsson says that she has repeatedly asked the question "what is on the shelf", without getting an answer from the regional management.

- We have expanded what we can and we have received clear instructions that we will not build warehouses.

Possibly increase by ten percent.

This means that we can operate two weeks and two days compared to two weeks before.

Several shortcomings remain

And she believes that several shortcomings that emerged during the pandemic have not been remedied.

In the corona commission's survey of the country's intensive care units, which we looked at in more detail in collaboration with Assignment Review, the IVA departments in our region highlight several problems:

• lack of protective equipment

• shortage of medicines

• shortage of staff

Premises not suitable

- I know that the personnel issue is not better, I know that the premises are not better and I do not think there is any stock.

Two years later.

I hope I am wrong, says Annika Nilsson.
