China Overseas Chinese Network, April 15. According to Japan's "Chinese Herald" report, Japan's Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Nobusuke Suematsu said that since Japan eased entry control measures in March, about 30,000 foreign students have entered the country.

Nobusuke Suematsu said that the number of foreign students entering the country is steadily increasing.

As of March, there were about 110,000 newly-arrived students who wanted to go to Japan stranded overseas, and they should all be able to arrive in Japan by the end of May.

The Japan Immigration Service also introduced that from March 1 to April 10, about 30,000 foreigners who entered the country with the "study abroad" residence permit.

According to reports, in view of the improvement of quarantine capacity and other aspects, the Japanese government has further relaxed entry restrictions. Since April 10, it has raised the daily limit of 7,000 people to 10,000 people.

The Japanese government is looking into approving applications by all foreign students wishing to enter Japan by the end of May.

Through this measure, it is expected that more than 100,000 entry applications will be approved, and vacant seats on Japanese airline flights will be opened to these foreign students.

According to data released by the Japan Student Support Agency, in 2012, there were 24,000 foreign students enrolled in Japanese language schools, and it exceeded 90,000 in 2018, which is more than the number of foreign students studying in Japanese universities.

However, since 2020, since the new crown epidemic spread around the world, as of 2021, there are only 41,000 foreign students enrolled in Japanese language schools, which is more than half of the number three years ago.

The latest data shows that as of May 2021, there were a total of 242,000 foreign students enrolled in Japanese universities and Japanese language schools, a decrease of 37,000 from the same period last year.

Among them, there were 114,000 Chinese students studying abroad, a decrease of 7,000 compared with the same period of the previous year.

In addition, the Japan Immigration Service also announced that the total number of foreigners who entered Japan in March reached about 82,000, the highest number since April 2020.

In order to prevent the spread of the new crown epidemic, Japan has strengthened border control since March 2020, and the number of people entering Japan has decreased sharply since April of that year.

According to records, as many as 2.7 million foreigners entered Japan in March 2019.
