Australian Prime Minister's security team injured in a car accident

A car carrying Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison's security team overturned and rolled under a bridge yesterday, injuring four non-seriously injured and taken to hospital.

The Tasmanian state police said in a statement that the car overturned after colliding with another car, while the prime minister was on his way to campaign in the state before the elections scheduled for next May 21.

Morrison's office said the prime minister had canceled his remaining stops for the next day, but he was not in the car at the time of the accident.

The prime minister described the elements protecting him and his family as "dedicated, professional and incredibly generous".

"I hope to hear more good news about their health," he said in a statement.

The police said that the car in which the officers were traveling was seriously damaged, but that the crew's injuries were "not life-threatening."

Morrison's office said the four officers were conscious when they were removed from the scene.

Local police said they are still investigating the cause of the accident.

It was not clear whether the car in which the security forces were traveling followed the Prime Minister's car at the time of the accident.
