Auctions are an innovative and contemporary tool to support charitable and humanitarian work in today's world.

Many charitable, humanitarian and social institutions organize auctions, the proceeds of which go to support the goals of their humanitarian campaigns, and to support vulnerable groups in less fortunate communities.

Charitable auctions enable participants who are pioneers of charitable and humanitarian work and who are keen to do good and contribute to supporting humanitarian causes, to bid on exhibits, regardless of their actual value, for a higher goal, which is not to acquire the offered commodity, but rather to contribute its proceeds to support a purposeful charitable work.

Individuals or institutions can offer a good, service, or valuable collectible, and donate it to put it in a charitable auction, so that the proceeds of its sale go to charitable campaigns.

The UAE has applied this innovative approach to charitable and humanitarian work early on, as many auctions of distinctive vehicle number plates in Abu Dhabi over the past years have contributed to raising tens of millions of dirhams to support charitable causes inside and outside the country.

Last Ramadan, the "Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives" organized a charitable art auction, which generated more than 36 million dirhams from the proceeds of art holdings by international artists, such as Picasso and Henri Matisse, all of which went to support the efforts of the "100 Million Meals" campaign.

Before that, the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority organized in 2017, in partnership with Christie’s International, a charity auction on a group of works by local and international artists, the proceeds of which were allocated to support refugees in the region.

In 2018, the Sharjah Police, in cooperation with the Emirates Auction Company, organized a charity auction on distinguished vehicle numbers, the proceeds of which went to support the humanitarian projects of the Big Heart Foundation.

International auction houses organize charitable auctions of various kinds to support humanitarian work, including auctions on artworks by ancient, modern or contemporary art pioneers, individual collectibles of celebrities, championship cups and medals for athletes, antiques and valuables found in palaces, historical homes, or mission equipment. Exploration or space, old stamps, postcards and coins, autographed photos, tickets to exclusive events, or memorabilia from important milestones that have influenced the course of human history.

Proceeds from the auction will be allocated to support children's education and health programs implemented by the partners of the "Inspiring Humanity" initiative.

Innovation in humanitarian action

Charitable auctions held in the UAE translate its continuous approach, under the guidance of the state’s leadership, and the comprehensive participation of segments of society and its economic activities, in innovation in humanitarian work, and the use of various tools, platforms and ways to expand its scope, so that it includes more beneficiaries of global humanitarian initiatives that are launched from the Emirates towards The world, to provide humanitarian and relief aid, empower communities, raise levels of health care and preventive awareness, spread knowledge, and support education in underprivileged communities around the world.
