The vice-governor of New York was indicted on Tuesday for corruption and other offenses by the federal justice of the United States.
Brian Benjamin then resigned after only a few months in office.
The 45-year-old deputy state governor turned himself in to the FBI, authorities said.
In the evening, the governor of New York announced that she had "accepted [his] resignation with immediate effect".
"He could not continue to serve as vice governor," Kathy Hochul said.

False documents provided during an election campaign
Brian Benjamin is accused of having, from 2019, “used his authority” as an elected official in order to “divert a state-run grant to an organization controlled by a real estate investor in exchange for contributions” to his campaign for be elected in 2021 to the position of New York City Comptroller of Finance.
The grant was $50,000.
The American is also accused of having provided false documents during his candidacy for the post of vice-governor in the 2022 elections. He is also said to have “engaged in a series of lies and deceptions in order to conceal the mechanism of corruption” .
He faces up to 10 years in prison for corruption and up to 20 years for other counts, including falsification of documents.
