Amid days of unrest in the West Bank, Israeli soldiers shot dead a Palestinian youth on Wednesday.
He attacked the troops with an incendiary bomb near the city of Husan, whereupon the soldiers responded with live ammunition, the Israeli army said.
The Palestinian authorities confirmed the death of the teenager, believed to be 16 years old.
Israeli soldiers have been on large-scale operations in the Israeli-occupied West Bank since the weekend.
Israel's Prime Minister Naftali Bennett had announced tough action against militant Palestinians after a series of attacks.
A total of 14 people were killed in four attacks in Israel within a little over two weeks.
According to an AFP count, at least 17 Palestinians have been killed in the same period, including the attackers.
