In 2001, BB in Kiruna was closed down - the nearest maternity ward is in Gällivare 120 km away or in Sunderbyn outside Luleå, over 340 km away.

Lina Maria Viitala and Marie Rahkola are two of the mothers behind the Instagram account Verklighetenkiruna, which highlights parents' testimonies about the consequences of having neither childbirth nor BB in their hometown.

Both also share their own experiences.

- We are basically without medical care.

For us, everything hangs on a fragile thread.

It's just a matter of making it to the birth and the woman and the child surviving.

We do not have the privilege of planning pain relief or maybe a hot bath, says Lina Maria Viitala.

Sudden births in snow smoke

On the account you can take part in everything from stories about fear before the birth, sudden births in snow smoke, darkness and winter cold on the "road of death", but also the lack of easily accessible women's health care after the new mothers left BB in Gällivare.

The Kiruna mothers say that they will never be silent until they receive the care they are entitled to.

- The birth of a child is like the future of the country, so it should be a priority if they want the whole country to grow, says Lina-Maria Viitala.

She does not give much for the fact that the Health Care Act's goal is care on equal terms for the entire population.

- You get upset because it is extremely unfair.

You almost feel that it is an oppression of us who live up here.

"Some choose not to have more children"

Lina-Maria says that many Kiruna mothers suffer from mental illness and anxiety throughout their pregnancy because they feel so de-prioritized.

Many carry severe trauma afterwards.

- Some choose not to have more children, others move from here and it has also happened that they have chosen to end their lives, says Marie Rahkola.

Is it really reasonable for people to be able to settle anywhere and then demand the same care as in a big city?

- Just in Kiruna's case, I think so.

We have Sweden's largest mine and we need to live here for the state to get its money, but we get nothing back, says Lina-Maria Viitala.

Wants politicians to test the route

What do you want to send to the regional politicians?

- So follow in a car on the way to the birth.

It's as black on white as it can get.

In the video, you hear the parents' testimonies about the horror experiences.
