When it comes to the singing of the congregations, the joy of Easter still sounds subdued this year.

After the federal government has lifted the ordinance on corona protection measures, the services in the Christian churches during Holy Week and on Easter days can be celebrated in attendance, and there are hardly any requirements.

However, wearing a mask is one of the requirements of the dioceses of Limburg and Mainz and is a recommendation of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN) to their communities.

She also advises keeping your distance on the pews, while the Catholic dioceses only make this requirement for choirs and music ensembles.

"It can be sung again without restrictions," emphasizes cathedral canon Georg Franz in a statement from the diocese of Limburg.

There are no restrictions other than wearing the mask.

Some Corona rules were dropped a long time ago.

The vaccination or convalescent status is no longer recorded in the places of worship, shops and restaurants.

The only option left would be to enforce the 2G or 3G rule via domiciliary rights.

The EKHN crisis team considers this to be difficult to justify once the state access restrictions have been lifted.

For church services where capacity is expected to be used up, however, prior registration can be retained, according to Darmstadt.

All Catholic services can be attended without prior registration.

No state requirements

After the first Corona year without any Easter services with full pews and the back and forth of the previous year, when politicians had withdrawn their initially expressed "urgent request" to refrain from face-to-face services, this time there are no government guidelines for the holidays.

The first priority of the basic protection measures announced by the state government is the appeal to act independently, which the churches also address to their members.

The ecumenical information service with the dates of the Protestant and Catholic communities was created during the Corona period in order to be able to offer up-to-date information in view of the uncertainties caused by the pandemic.

The overview appears at Christmas and Easter.

The church president of the EKHN, Volker Jung, recommended that the Protestant congregations invite refugees from the Ukraine to church services at Easter.

Most of them belonged to Orthodox churches, and some might wait a week to attend services when Orthodoxy celebrates Easter.

The evangelical church, together with the center for ecumenism in Frankfurt, has put together auxiliary material for organizing church services.
