The road has previously been hit by a number of incidents where trucks with too high a load drove into the bridge and got stuck.

Already last winter, a temporary farm catcher was set up to prevent accidents, but now a permanent solution is in place - an obstacle consisting of an eight-ton steel beam that will act as a crash protection.

Accidents stop train traffic

Jan Heldring, construction manager at Eskilstuna municipality, explains that train traffic must be stopped when a truck enters the railway bridge and that it cannot be released again until someone from the Swedish Transport Administration has been on site and inspected the bridge.

- The train traffic probably has enough congestion anyway as it is right now, he says.

In order for a truck to be able to travel under the obstacle, it must be a maximum of 3.6 meters.

It is Eskilstuna municipality that together with the Swedish Transport Administration decides on what kind of obstacle to build.

In the clip, you can see what the new obstacle looks like and why Jan Heldring does not think it poses any major risk to the truck drivers.
