Ukraine

- 50 days of war were catastrophic for Ukraine in various fields, according to the figures announced by the government and international organizations, or collected by scientific institutions and others established specifically for this purpose.

These areas include displacement and refugee operations, and human losses among civilians and soldiers, in addition to losses in infrastructure of all kinds, as well as military losses.

Millions of displaced people

According to approximate government statistics, about 12 million residents of Ukraine have been forced to leave their homes since the beginning of the war, which is equivalent to about 27% of the total population.

Of these, about 4.6 million people crossed the borders as refugees, mainly to the European neighboring countries, and 90% of them are women and children, and the rest were distributed to the regions of western Ukraine as internally displaced persons.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) indicates that the war displaced two-thirds of the total number of Ukraine's children, and about 3.2 million of them remained in their homes, and about half of them are at risk of not getting enough food.

death tolls

According to the statement of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on April 12, the number of Ukrainian civilians killed in the war reached 4,450, including 1,988 dead, and 2,558 wounded.

However, the Commission admits that the actual numbers are much higher, due to the delay in information received from areas of heavy fighting, and the difficulty of verifying the accuracy of the reports received from them on this matter.

Indeed, the UNHCR numbers seem very small compared to other numbers announced by the Ukrainian authorities and local authorities in different parts of the country, as the number of deaths - for example - is close to 1,300 people in the city of Kyiv alone, while the estimated number exceeds 21 thousand in Mariupol (south of east of the country).

According to the Ukrainian Emergency Service, 197 children have been killed and 351 others have been injured since the beginning of the Russian war, but the Mariupol city council had also indicated weeks ago that more than 210 children had been killed in this city.

Russian losses

Kyiv is keen to provide daily data for what it says are "losses of the Russian forces fighting in Ukraine", and officials in Ukraine are satisfied with talking about "great losses and sacrifices", without revealing their details among the soldiers, mechanisms and others.

According to the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of Ukraine, which is keen to provide a daily update of what it says are the losses of the Russian forces participating in the war, the losses of the Russian forces amounted to the 50th day of the war, killing 19,900 soldiers and wounding more than 60,000 others, in addition to the destruction and damage of 753 tanks. , 1968 armored vehicles, and 366 artillery systems, which are much larger numbers than announced by the Russian authorities, which accuse Ukraine of practicing propaganda and providing incorrect figures for the losses of its forces in Ukraine.

The list also includes 122 missile launchers, 64 air defense platforms, 160 combat aircraft, 144 helicopters, 132 drones, 1,429 military vehicles, 76 fuel tanks, 7 ships and naval boats, and other mechanisms and equipment.

Huge damage to infrastructure

According to periodic studies carried out by the Kyiv Institute of Economics, infrastructure losses in Ukraine amounted to about 600 billion dollars, of which 80 billion were recorded during the last week only, according to the “Russia will pay the price” website, which was founded by a number of professors and students of the institute.

In the details, the institute talks about the destruction or damage of about 23,000 km of paved and rail roads, about 37,000 square meters of real estate (apartments inside thousands of residential buildings), 546 educational institutions, 319 kindergartens, 205 medical institutions, and 145 factories and companies

.

In addition, 54 administrative buildings, 277 bridges and crossings, 10 military airports, 8 civilian airports and two ports were destroyed or damaged.

This is in addition to the destruction or damage of at least 74 religious buildings and 62 other cultural buildings, and the largest cargo plane in the world, the Antonov 225 "Meriya" (Dream), which the institute estimated at 300 million dollars, was destroyed.

Economic losses exceed one trillion

All of the above negatively affects the country's economy, which places priority on supporting the country's military machine, spending at least $68 million on it per day, according to Prime Minister Dennis Shmihal.

In turn, the Ministry of Economy warned that the war disrupted 70% of state and private sector companies and the cultivation of 30% of the land, and that the blockade of ports deprived Ukraine of revenues that constitute about 20% of GDP.

The ministry had indicated a few days ago that the country's economic losses as a result of the war had already exceeded the trillion dollar mark.
