The second stage of factory sea trials of the Project 677 Kronstadt submarine was successfully completed in the Gulf of Finland training grounds.

This was reported in the press service of the shipbuilding enterprise JSC "Admiralty Shipyards".

At this stage, "submarine dives were made, the ship's systems were checked."

Recall that the Kronstadt was founded in July 2005, but subsequently the construction was suspended and resumed only in 2013.

The ship was launched in September 2018.

“The delay in construction made it possible to take into account on this ship the experience of building and operating the Saint Petersburg submarine, in all respects this boat surpasses its predecessor, the boat of the 636th project,” said the general director of the Admiralty Shipyards during the ceremony. Alexander Buzakov.

“Project 677 submarines belong to the fourth generation of non-nuclear submarines and are today recognized as the most modern and promising domestic non-nuclear submarines, both in terms of combat effectiveness and other tactical and technical characteristics,” the Admiralty Shipyards explained. .

Focus on Lada

The command of the Navy today pays great attention to the construction of non-nuclear submarines - the priority is project 677 "Lada".

It was developed within the walls of the Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering, becoming the development of the 877 Halibut project.

The Lada uses new solutions in the hull design, a special coating and the latest radio electronics.

Thanks to this, it was possible to realize the initial requirement for the project's boats - they have greater stealth and less noise.

As explained in Admiralty Shipyards, the noise level was reduced due to the use of an all-mode main propulsion motor with permanent magnets, the installation of vibration-active equipment on vibration isolators and the introduction of a new generation of anti-sonar coating technology.

“The Navy believes that the submarines of this project will become the main (type. -

) for the non-nuclear submarine fleet of Russia,” Vice Admiral Viktor Bursuk, Deputy Commander of the Russian Navy for armaments, noted in 2017.

The length of the Lada is almost 67 m, the width is 7 m, the underwater speed is 21 knots (39 km / h), the displacement is 1.7 thousand tons, the diving depth is more than 300 m, autonomy is 45 days, the crew is 35 people.

“Distinctive features of Project 677 submarines compared to the previous generation submarines are the ability to conduct salvo rocket fire at sea targets and improved characteristics of electronic weapons,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

These submarines are designed for independent operations against enemy submarines, ships and ground targets.

They can also be used for anti-submarine defense in coastal areas and strait zones, as well as for laying minefields.

“Submarines of this project can be operated in any area of the World Ocean (except for areas with a continuous ice cover) in any weather conditions, in shallow and deep water areas,” the website of the Admiralty Shipyards specifies.

"Cheaper and More Efficient"

Experts call the main advantages of Project 677 submarines their low noise and compactness.

Kronstadt and the like are single-hull submarines.

Accordingly, they have a smaller displacement, which does not affect their armament capabilities.

It is important that they managed to reduce their noise, which gives them an advantage in combat missions, ”explained 1st-rank captain in reserve, military expert Vasily Dandykin, in an interview with RT.

According to him, the submarines of the Lada project "surpassed the previous creations of the Rubin Design Bureau."

“We are talking about acoustics, weapons.

So, Kronstadt can not only fire torpedoes, but also Caliber missiles from torpedo tubes, that is, in fact, it is practically a missile submarine, ”said Dandykin.

In turn, military expert Viktor Litovkin singled out the versatility of the Kronstadt.

“The submarine can solve many problems: fighting submarines and surface ships of a potential enemy, fighting ground targets, ensuring the deployment of strategic nuclear submarines, and much more,” he said in an interview with RT.

According to Vasily Dandykin, submarines such as the Kronstadt can be used in inland seas where there are no nuclear submarines.

According to him, we are talking about the Northern and Baltic fleets, as well as, to some extent, the Pacific.

“These ships can cover the deployment of a nuclear submarine missile fleet and surface ships.

They can also shoot at the shore from a submerged position.

Where previously nuclear submarines had to solve problems, now they will fill the niche.

They are cheaper, and even at some points more effective, ”the analyst notes.

He also stressed that the 677 project is an exclusively Russian product.

“Before, there were difficulties due to the break in production chains after the collapse of the USSR.

But now it will be the main non-nuclear submarine in the Russian fleet,” Dandykin summed up.
