• Justice The new Court of Accounts gives oxygen to the independentists and now accepts the endorsement of the Generalitat

In the middle of Holy Week, the Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Accounts has finally shown its cards in the case against the independentistas and has decided to reduce by 62% the amount that must be claimed from the independentistas for the illegal expenses of the procés.

According to a statement from the State Attorney General's Office headed by Dolores Delgado

, who was the first Justice Minister in the Government of

Pedro Sánchez

,

a lawsuit is finally filed against 35 pro-independence leaders headed by

Carles Puigdemont

and

Oriol Junqueras

, but for a much lower figure. which the Court of Accounts ordered to be deposited as security.

Finally, it claims 3.4 million euros, compared to the nine million initially requested based on the evidence collected by the Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Auditors.

The lawsuit was inevitable as the Supreme Court ruled that there was embezzlement in the procés, but it is a new example of the change that the Court of Accounts is registering online to soften the case against the independence movement.

The new heads of the Court, recently elected through an agreement between the Government and the previous leadership of the PP, have already accepted the guarantees of the Generalitat of Catalonia for the independentistas against the criteria of the instructor delegate,

Esperanza García.

Now

the new prosecutor appointed by Dolores Delgado,

Manuel Martín-Granizo

, also disavows the amount.

According to the statement, the new prosecutor considers that the embezzled expenses due to the illegal referendum on October 1 are finally limited to

1.21 million compared to the 3.9 million expected.

They are also much lower than the 3.46 million requested in their demand by Catalan Civil Society.

The Prosecutor's Office justifies the reduction for "unity of action" with other judicial actions and because there are expenses that are difficult to attribute, in its opinion, exclusively to the referendum or that were not finally carried out, as it gives the Unipost emails as an example.

It also excludes the Generalitat's auditors from the lawsuit, as it does not consider them to be responsible.

One of them,

Mireia Vidal

, told this newspaper last July that, on the contrary, she was dismissed by Junqueras after her first warning.

As for the so-called foreign action, it also reduces to 2.2 million, compared to the amount of the provisional settlement of 5.1 million.

He alleges that the instruction called into question the "ideological freedom" of the independentistas

and does not believe that they should return money from official trips in which members of the Generalitat dedicated themselves to criticizing the State and promoting support for secession.

"The lawsuit focuses on those expenses for which accounting error can be predicated, on the expenses incurred by the Generalitat delegations abroad and on the expenses of the DIPLOCAT entity both for some activities to promote the sovereignist process and for other unjustified expenses," the statement said.

The demand of the Prosecutor's Office and that of the Catalan Civil Society are the keys now for the prosecution in the Court of Auditors and the final sentence.

The Attorney General of the State does not file a lawsuit, because the Ministry of Justice alleges that it is money that the Generalitat of Catalonia must claim and it does not claim it either, because it does not see any embezzlement in promoting secession at the expense of the treasury.
