She is one of many villagers who are being cared for in hospital after the storm Megi who hit the island nation hard.

26 people from the village, located in the municipality of Abuyog, have been found dead and 150 are still missing.

- I will be honest, we no longer expect to find any survivors, says Lemuel Traya, Mayor of Abuyo.

The rescue work is also "very risky" because debris from smashed homes is in the water.

We use fiberglass boats and there are steel rods in the sea so it is very difficult, says Traya.

Most of the victims have been found in Leyte, where the devastation is great.

Searching with his hands

In some places, search workers are reported to be digging in the masses with their bare hands or with simple shovels in the search for survivors and victims.

27 people are said to be still missing in settlements around Baybay City, where nearly 50 deaths have been found.

The Philippines is ranked as one of the world's most vulnerable nations in terms of climate change and about 20 storms occur on average each year.

More than 80 people have so far been found dead after Megi and the death toll is expected to rise when the rescue operation that is now underway changes focus to take care of the bodies left behind by the storm.
