Almost 13,000 Swedish women were affected by the most serious forms of childbirth during 2016-2020.

In Jämtland County, about 30 women get severe stretch marks in connection with childbirth, every year.

It can be about pain and difficulty holding stools, problems that are tough both physically and mentally.

Now those women will get help at Östersund Hospital.

- We open a clinic one day a week with a midwife, doctor and physiotherapist.

Those who have severe stretch marks, ie grade 3 and 4, can come here.

Even those with other pelvic problems can get in touch, says chief physician Kristina Nordquist.

Earmarked money

Work is underway throughout the country to reduce the number of women suffering from stretch marks.

Since 2015, the government has distributed sharply earmarked money to maternity care.

Region Jämtland Härjedalen has received 17.5 million for 2022. Money that, among other things, will go to the new reception.

- We have also used the money for training, staff and a new maternity doll for training, says area manager Iréne Hoglert.
