In the next round, Korda, who is also participating for the first time in this first Masters 1000 on clay of the season, will face his compatriot Taylor Fritz (13th) or the Croatian Marin Cilic (22nd).

"He beat me in the final of the Masters Next Gen last year so it's good to take my revenge!" exclaimed Korda about his opponent of the day who he considers to be "an extraordinary player" promised a "great future".

At 18, Alcaraz is expected to be the new nugget of Spanish and world tennis, especially after the American hard court tour at the start of the season: he was only eliminated in the semi-finals in Indian Wells by Rafael Nadal, before win his first Masters 1000 a few days later in Miami.

For his part, Korda (21) obtained his best result this year at the ATP 250 in Delray Beach (hard) in February where he reached the quarter-finals.

He had made a name for himself - the son of former world No.2 Petr Korda - by reaching the round of 16 at Roland-Garros in 2020.
