The “Food Surplus” campaign includes four sub-initiatives, namely “Kitchens of Goodness”, collecting surplus food prepared and fit for consumption from breakfast buffets, the Ramadan basket for fruits and vegetables, and Ramadan Meer.

The Conscious Kitchens initiative focuses on benefiting from surplus food in cooperative societies, supermarkets and retail stores.

It also cooperates with a number of central kitchens.

The working model of this sub-initiative is based on assembling the components required to prepare specific meals after they are filled and delivered by the initiative’s partners to the Emirates Food Bank’s warehouse, which in turn sends them to the central kitchen, where the meals are prepared and then distributed to needy families and individual workers.

As for the initiative to collect surplus food prepared and fit for consumption from breakfast buffets, it cooperates with hotels according to the principle of “preserving grace” to ensure that fresh food prepared by hotel chefs is not wasted and has not been used, so that it is packaged within meals that are kept in a safe and healthy way to preserve its nutritional components. , and then deliver it to the beneficiaries in cooperation with the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department.

This initiative also provides a qualitative and innovative solution to food waste that is not fit for consumption and transforms it, after being processed by the emerging fertilizer and recycling company “Relube”, into biofuel from processed cooking oils and organic fertilizer that is useful in fertilizing green spaces and crops.

According to Relube's statistics, an excess of one million meals can cover 1.25 million square feet of agricultural land with organic fertilizers, spare landfills the equivalent of 625,000 kilograms of waste, and provide 160,000 liters of biofuel.

The Ramadan Meer initiative collects basic foodstuffs from cooperative societies, supermarkets and retail stores to the Emirates Food Bank’s warehouses and then arranges them in baskets containing the basic foodstuffs required to prepare meals and then distributes them to the beneficiaries. The Ramadan basket initiative for fruits and vegetables specializes in preparing baskets Its components include vegetables and fruits, in cooperation with the partners of the “One Million Meals of Surplus Food” campaign, and then distributed to needy individuals and families.
