Of the SEK 139 million that the Norrbotten Region received in state support for maternity care between 2016 and 2022, 39 million are thus missing.

It shows a compilation that Uppdrag granskning made together with SVT's local newsrooms.

Despite this, Linda Frohm thinks that the people of Norrbotten should trust that the money has gone where it was intended.

- I think it is important that they feel confident in the business because of course the money will benefit the business.

We know that we have fantastic maternity care in Norrbotten, says the regional council.

"Had large retirements"

The midwives are fleeing the region and many are testifying to a catastrophic work environment, how could the situation have worsened when you received millions of kronor in state support

?

- It should be remembered that millions from the state do not construct midwives.

We have had large retirements and not been able to employ enough, but we still have fantastic maternity care in Norrbotten, says Linda Frohm.

Among other things, she mentions the efforts to prevent birth defects:

- We have trained all midwives to become even better at detecting stretch marks early on so that we do not get birth defects.

Puts responsibility on the previous management

But there is no account for 39 million who were ringed for maternity care?

- Yes, although 30 of those millions have not been reported under another majority and they have to answer for that, says Linda Frohm.

Is it not your responsibility to keep track of where every tax crown in the region goes?

- Of course, but remember that money and quality are not always the same thing.

We want equal care for all Norrbotten residents.

Where exactly every krona goes for the business to take us there, that is not the most important thing for politics.

Promises accounting of the millions

So how should the people of Norrbotten know what these millions have gone to?

- I will find out where they went exactly and there are several who are working on it.

You have had the chance to find out because I gave you sums and years before the interview?

- It has been completely impossible for the business to go through all these years in such a short time.

They also have a mission to think ahead and they have had tasks before I emailed these questions.

I have full confidence that they have prioritized what is most important, says Linda Frohm.
