The area covered by the no-fly zone within Laevas is north of the Kebnekaise massif.

The ban applies from 18 April for two weeks until 1 May.

- In this area in particular, it is heliskiing that we have problems with.

There may be eight, nine helicopters flying around all day, as long as it is light.

They bother the reindeer and drive them in different directions, says Niila Inga, chairman of Laevas.

Increased from year to year

This is the first time that the Sami villages Laevas, Gabna and Talma have applied for a flight ban with the Swedish Transport Agency and have it been granted.

The reason for this is that the Sami villages see that the problem with, among other things, heliskiing has increased from year to year.

Over the years, attempts have been made to have a dialogue with the helicopter companies, but the problems have remained.

- The area that is now subject to a flight ban is not within our calving countries, but it is precisely in these areas that the majority of our reindeer are currently located.

Since it has been and is a really bad grazing winter for the reindeer, they are at the top of the peaks.

The ban only applies for two weeks, but it is the best time for the reindeer to have grazing peace before calving begins.

The neighboring Sami village of Girjas has also today applied for a flight ban for heliskiing.
