Refugees from Ukraine can seek care here according to the Mass Protection Directive, ie as for any asylum seeker.

As soon as they are registered with the Swedish Migration Board, they are offered a health examination of the region.

- It is an offer and it is voluntary, says Ola Lundmark, who is section manager for e-health in the Jönköping County Region.

No onslaught

Since it is primary care that is responsible for the health examinations, it is primarily where increased pressure would be felt.

However, it has not been the onslaught that the region had expected.

The reason is, among other things, that Jönköping County is not the first recipient of refugees as the Swedish Migration Board is not established here with offices in the county.

Existing staff

The Jönköping region has not appointed additional staff, but it is expected that everything can be handled within the existing organization.

- But I think we have prepared well and we have gathered people in different professions to prepare.

How big do you think the need for psychiatric support is?

- Very difficult to know, but we talk about it.

We can guess that it may exist over time, but it may not be something that exists directly, says Ola Lundmark.

- We need to be prepared for the fact that the work with refugees from Ukraine will continue for a long time.
