Originally from Reunion, the 2022 French dessert champion Julien Leveneur was welcomed with great fanfare when he returned to the island this Saturday.
The pastry chef had been crowned three days earlier in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône).
He seduced the jury with a typical Reunionese creation: A candied palm kernel in cooked syrup accompanied by tamarind gel, specifies La Première.

The winner of the national competition had also called his dessert “My roots”.
The pastry chef, working in a hotel in Saint-Leu (Reunion) was treated to a happy welcoming committee on his arrival at Saint-Denis airport.
A group made up of his family and friends was waiting for Julien Leveneur with banners that surprised him.
"Since he was little it's been a passion, he already did a lot of cooking with dad, testified the brother of the champion of France about pastry.
I hope this is the start of a great journey for him”.
